Framework of the Toolkit
Process-oriented approach
- The recommended accessibility practices in this Toolkit basically follow the temporal sequence of creating digital educational materials and delivering a course. The stages broadly include:
- Designing the content and adjusting the presentation > Exporting and disseminating the materials > Using and interacting with the materials.
- Pre-class preparation > At the beginning of class > In-class activities > After-class follow-up.
- This process-oriented approach aims to facilitate more user-oriented and stage-wise planning to make accessibility an inherent part of the creation and delivery processes.
Ecological approach
- The Toolkit covers different factors that cut across different ecological levels such as the cultural, community, environmental, language, interpersonal, and/or, technological levels for more effective co-creation of accessible virtual teaching and learning in university education.
Elements of accessible virtual teaching and learning
- Learn about the basic concepts and our roles.
- Create teaching and learning materials in accessible formats from scratch using different authoring tools.
- Select and adopt existing e-learning tools, and/or create own tools.
- Establish accessible teaching and learning environments (both online and offline). Deliver the class sessions in accessible ways. Practice effective and inclusive communication.
- Provide mutual support to colleagues, students, and members of other higher education institutions.
